The Moldovan authorities do not consider the risk of Transnistria's involvement in the conflict with Ukraine high. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of Moldova Oleg Serebrian on TV8 TV channel, NOI.md reports.
According to him, “no one denies that we live in a sensitive zone” and that military operations on the territory of Ukraine could potentially affect Moldova as well. “But there is no high degree of readiness for the possible involvement of this region in the conflict. On the left bank of the Dniester, neither among the population nor among the business environment, I felt any interest in escalating tensions. There is no risk that this conflict will be reborn in the near future, — Serebrian said.
According to him, the Moldovan authorities exchange information with the leadership of Transnistria. “During the negotiations with [the head of the unrecognized republic] Vadim Krasnoselsky, I did not feel belligerence, the desire to solve problems by force. We are convinced that Tiraspol is not interested in the worsening of the situation,— said the Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova.
Also, according to him, he does not think that Ukraine is capable of attacking Transnistria. In his opinion, Kyiv is not interested “in opening a new hot spot.”
On April 25, 26 and 27, four objects were attacked in Transnistria including the headquarters of the Ministry of State Security of the republic, as well as the antennas of the radio and television center, which relayed Russian radio.
The authorities of Transnistria stated that the unknown persons who fired at the main office of the Ministry of State Security illegally arrived from Ukrainian territory and then departed in the opposite direction. The unrecognized republic declared a red level of terrorist threat and took enhanced security measures, also canceling the military parade by May 9.
The Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic declared its independence from Moldova in 1990. Russia sent peacekeepers to the region in July 1992 after the conflict escalated, and a task force of Russian troops is now based there. In June 2018, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers from Pridnestrovie.
The Russian Foreign Ministry called this UN decision provocative, and the PMR refused to withdraw the Russian military from the republic. Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that in order to resolve the conflict, Russian peacekeepers should be replaced by a mission of civilian observers from the OSCE.
Moldova put forward its own version of what happened. On April 26, Moldovan President Maia Sandu held a meeting of the republic's Security Council, following which she said that there are frictions in Pridnestrovie between various forces within the republic that “advocate war.” The third version of what happened was outlined by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. According to him, the situation in the PMR “is trying to destabilize” Russia. “We clearly understand that this is one of the steps of the Russian Federation. It's the special services that work there, — he said. “They show them that if Moldova supports Ukraine, there will be certain steps,” — considers Zelensky.

Moscow regards the latest incidents in Transnistria as terrorist attacks and condemns attempts to involve the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldavian Republic (PMR) in the conflict in Ukraine, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on April 28 . According to her, Russia is waiting for a “thorough and objective investigation”; circumstances of these incidents.
Transnistria borders on Ukraine, where the Russian military operation is taking place. In mid-April, Moscow announced a new phase of the operation, the purpose of which was the establishment of control over the Donbass and southern Ukraine in order to provide a corridor to Transnistria.
