Even if Western countries stop supplying weapons to Ukraine, military countries will still fight, fighting even with shovels, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said in an interview with the ARD TV channel, Sueddeutsche Zeitung reports.

“If we don't have weapons, fine, then we'll fight with shovels, but we'll defend ourselves,” — he stressed.

Kuleba explained that the sooner weapons are sent to the Ukrainian military, the more help it will provide to the country. “If the weapons are sent later, we will still say “thank you”, but then a lot will be wasted, many people will die,” — he added.

The Minister emphasized that the West should not believe that without the supply of weapons, Ukraine will be more willing to make concessions to Russia. At the same time, he pointed out that Ukraine has significantly fewer weapons than Russia.

Arms deliveries are now one of the most acute issues in relations between Ukraine and Western countries, in particular the European Union. So, Kyiv criticized, for example, Germany, for the lack of supplies of heavy weapons. Berlin, in turn, replied that it was supplying Ukraine with weapons, including modern howitzers, but could not satisfy all the desires of Ukraine.

On June 11, Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk said that Berlin would fulfill part of its promises on supplies by the end of summer. We are talking about the transfer of seven self-propelled howitzers (they will be delivered before June 22) and 30 Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns. (15 will arrive by the end of July, another 15 by the end of August).

Moscow believes that arms supplies to Ukraine only delay the conduct of hostilities on its territory. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed that the country was being “pumped up” weapons. “In any case, the goals of the special military operation will be achieved, they will simply cause more suffering to Ukraine, which is just a tool in the hands of those countries that supply [weapons] there,” — he said.
