A project said to broadly span 21st Century Pop Culture, the Daft punk book ‘After :Daft’ is set to chart 28 years of the legendary duo and also dig into three decades of cultural, musical and technological developments.
The publishers behind the epic book titled “After Daft: The Rewiring of 21st Century Culture” have now released the first wave which is a long list of high-profile interviewees and contributors who feature in the book set to release in 2024.
Written by journalist and author Gabriel Szatan, the book is brought together from over 250 hours of conversations and interviews with over 60 industry stalwarts including names like Carl Craig, Annie Mac, Porter Robinson, Dillon Francis and also the last ever interview with Chicago house music legend Paul Johnson.
In addition to artists and DJ’s the interviews also include crew from the historic Alive World Tour and Thomas Bangalter’s father Daniel Vangarde among others. Speaking about the project, Szatan said, “As a music lover, it makes me genuinely excited to see all these names come together under one roof. Where else would it be possible for duos Air and TNGHT to co-exist, Stevie Wonder’s right-hand man Nathan East to meet ‘90s techno heavyweight Neil Landstrumm, or Peaches and Paul Williams to sit side-by-side? To tally the full scope of the A.D. era, you need to place as much emphasis on the After as the Daft.”
He went on to add, “We went into the project wondering: what if there was a fresher and more compelling way to frame this transformative age in culture? That’s why After Daft is artist-led, to tell an authentic story through the eyes of those who shaped it: musicians from different backgrounds and disciplines whose lives interacted in fascinating ways, undersung creatives who oil the industry machine, as well as countless artists that thrived as the ceiling was raised on dance and electronic music’s creative possibilities and immense global popularity”
